Public Service Recognition Week

Agencies, unions, and lawmakers were encouraged to celebrate the work of public servants from May 2 – 8

For the first week in May, public service workers for the federal and local Governments are recognized for their contributions to society. The White House celebrated by signing an executive order that lifted the minimum wage for workers under federal contracts to $15/hour.

Agencies, unions for public employees, and politicians are encouraged to participate in various ways. Awards are often distributed within agencies to recognize workers that have excelled at their public duties. There are also events aimed at bringing attention to Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW), such as social media campaigns and virtual employee appreciation meetings.

Goals and Messages

The stated goals of PSRW are listed as:

  1. Connecting and educating citizens about the important work performed by their Government’s workforce.
  2. Improving the public perception and the morale of federal employees.
  3. Inspiring the next generation of public workers.

    The main messages include:

    1. Government employees are doing important work.
    2. The individual people working in Public Service address “incredible challenges our nation is facing.”
    3. Those who work in Public Service deserve a hearty Thank You from those that they serve.
    4. That Government work and Public Service are synonymous.

From everyone here at Serving Those Who Serve, to those who Serve in the Federal Government and other Public Service positions:

    THANK YOU!!
