  • The raw data from the 2023 FEVS has been released
  • Scores inched up across-the-board in regards to employee satisfaction
  • Overall job satisfaction up 2% to 68% according to government-wide survey

Every year, OPM conducts a government-wide survey to gauge job satisfaction. While the full detailed report has yet to be release, the raw data is now available. The basic gist that seems to emerge from combing through the stats is that federal workers a slightly more satisfied with their jobs, organization, leadership, and pay.

This year, 39% of the 1,604,020 federal employees who were invited to participate actually completed the questionnaire. The response rate is decently higher than the 2022 rate of 35%, but still below the 44% attained in 2020. Employee engagement did reach the same level as 2020, making those years tied for the highest since 2018 at 72%, up one percentage point from the 2022 employment engagement rate of 71%.

57% of respondents said they were happy with their salary, up 1% from the previous year. Satisfaction with their employing agency was up 2% from last year, now with 62% saying they were happy with their organization. Overall job satisfaction increased 2% as well, going from 66% in 2022 to 68% in the most recent report.

Other data points worth mentioning:

  • Perception of Integrity of Leadership saw a 61% positive response rate, up 2% from 2022 when it was 59%.
  • Motivation and Competency at the Workplace: up 1% from 73% in 2022 to 74% in 2023.
